The Reeflings are a mutant species spawn from oceans’ reefs around the world. Some Reeflings are newly arrived on land while others are born here to continue their legacy in the face of the planet’s reefs’ destructions. Reeflings are optimistic new inhabitants: whether brought into the world without a home, or having fled their places of origin, they are seeking a place and other living beings to settle down, create new communities and live peacefully with. They tell a story of escape, arrival, survival, transformation, and adaptation to new environments.
The Reeflings have travelled far and wide and some of them have now arrived to Brimbank.
Reeflings Memeries was a creative development project by Memetica, designed with and for children in collaboration with the local community. Over just six days, Memetica trained nine participating children to wear inflatable costumes, rehearse simple dance routines, and perform a script developed earlier. The community’s involvement also included three adults as narrators and a local musician for live performances. The dedication of supportive parents played a crucial role in bringing the project to life, culminating in a public showing after only six hours of rehearsals for a 40-minute piece.
The creative development of Reeflings’ Memeries was supported by the Bowery Theatre Residency program of Creative Brimbank
