:: Air Camp – Welcome
The Air Camp final product was a series of interconnected inflated tents, each of which was designed by a child to showcase an issue they were passionate about. The same child would then occupy the tent during the exhibition, speaking from within to visitors just outside their little world about their passions.
:: Air Camp – Exhibition
The inflatable sculptures each child created for their tents were elevated with lighting; children performing inside their tents used a microphone. These simple AV effects significantly amplified the end result and created an otherworldly aesthetic.
:: The Monsters Project – performance and original kids’ drawings
The Monsters Project asked schoolchildren to think of monsters and draw them with descriptions of their behavior and personality. Daniele intervened on teh selected drawings and translated the concepts into design for giant puppets. After consulting with the original authors and agreeing on the designs, the puppets were created with a team of UTC students in a two weeks workshop.
:: A Monkey Tales at Yunlin Storyhouse 2018 (Taiwan)
Example of light weight wearable puppets for children. Based on characters and story created by the children with Daniele facilitation over two week residency at Yunlin Storyhouse. World Makers will make “body parts” (or other than ‘body’) that can be assembled in infinite combination in the LABs. Some parts will be finished while others will be still in need to be painted and decorated offering a wide range of creative intervention for kids.
:: Appendicitus – external and internal
Appendicitus was a project created in 2015 with the Village Festival in North Fitzroy Edinburgh Gardens, and demonstrates Memetica’s history of practice with large scale inflatable structures and participatory installation: the protruding appendix shapes were created by audience members. Facilitated by Daniele, visitors designed and created new shapes that were immediately added to the main body of the sculpture providing a constant, cumulative growth of the installation made by the audience themselves.
::Tendon – external and internal
Example of large scale inflatable installation.Tendon can be visited from the inside offering a surprising vibrant kaleidoscopic vision of color unexpected from the outside. The Lab sections of The Underground Reeflings world will be made with same colorful recycled tent material creating contrast with the tunnel like rest of the exhibition (cardboard).
:: Wish Street – exhibition
In 20013 Daniele worked with Macau School to create a story created by children of Macau Anglican College to create puppets performed by children for a short movie. Over two week children between 8 and 13yo worked to realise wearable cardboard puppets and rehearsed for the movie shooting.
:: Spoonbill returns Home – puppets for short movie
In 20013 Daniele worked with Macau School to create a story created by children of Macau Anglican College to create puppets performed by children for a short movie. Over two week children between 8 and 13yo worked to realise wearable cardboard puppets and rehearsed for the movie shooting. Example of level of decoration that can be achieved over cumulative stages (hair, articulated neck and head, moving eyebrows, moving jaw)
:: Street Skeeters at Melbourne Museum November 2018
This work demonstrates how well children react to all of Memetica’s work, including the roving puppets on wheels Street Skeeters – like The Reeflings, Skeeters are mutant urban creatures.
:: Air Play 5-9yo workshop at ArtPlay january 2019
Air Play is a workshop for children and guardian. Helped by the adults children made inflatable sculptures out of recycled plastic bags. Demonstrate short term yet highly engaging and artistic result activity for younger children. Inflatables creation took from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on level of complexity chosen by the child. Mixed media helped enhancement of the sculptures expressiveness.
